THE SOMERSET EMPEROR

Napoleon Gold Ring Discovery in Somerset

Napoleon Gold Ring Discovery in Somerset

Despite Napoleon's ambitious desires for Europe, he was never able to swing northwards for an attempted invasion of Britain. Had he actually won any of the connected military entanglements at Trafalgar or Waterloo, then no doubt things would be a whole lot different.

However, a recent detecting find by Dariusz indicates that perhaps an admirer of the Emperor—in the form of a French officer taken as a prisoner of war—may well have found himself in Somerset during or after these conflicts.

The Discovery

The find is a high carat gold ring bearing a cameo portrait of Emperor Napoleon on the bezel intaglio. No hallmarks are evident anywhere on the ring. Such finds ignite the imagination, making one ponder the possibilities: How did this ring come to be lost here? Who was its owner?

It is, without doubt, an intriguing and historically rich discovery. Well done to Dariusz, who will be sharing his experience of finding it in a future issue of Treasure Hunting Magazine.
